Question 5- How did you attract/address your audience?
Transcript
When planning our media product we had to think very carefully about our target audience and how we would attract them. We created a questionnaire to help us find out who our main target audience was and also to find out what they liked. We found our target audience was mainly late teens/ young adults. They were the majority of people who said they would watch our film.
We made sure that characters used would represent or target audience as well. This would make it more personal and then the audience could relate to someone of a similar age.
The acting in our piece is very unusual and there is no dialogue. I feel this attracts the audience as it makes them concentrate on what’s happening and want to keep watching. The main actor shows a lot of emotions when he finds the body, so this makes the audience feel sorry and engage in his actions a lot more. They can relate to his panic and it sets up the rest of the film very well and will make people want to carry on watching.
Our location also attracted our audience as it is a very original place, and many thriller series include beaches in their scenes. So straight away anyone who is interested in thrillers will be automatically drawn in. It sticks to the other conventions of the thriller genre too such as the level of lighting and the feeling of entrapment. We also found whilst doing our research into audiences that 60% of the people that took our questionnaire would like to have a beach featured in a thriller, which is what highly influenced our location decision.
